Twas the Night Before Christmas....

...and all through the house, I was stitching and trying to get these blocks all finished! As I mentioned in a previous post, I am making a "Night Before Christmas" block of the month. Alas, I have finished six of the twelve blocks. Here's the sneak peak preview of them, with more to follow. The remaining six are all designed, the fabric selected, and now I'm trying to find holes in my schedule so I can applique them and finish the quilt. The blocks have all been a real delight to work on.

Month One: 'Twas the night before Christmas...

Month Two: Not a creature was stirring....
(can you see the little mouse sleeping in his hole?)

Month Three: The stockings were hung by the chimney with care...
(and my grandkids' names are on those stockings!)

Month Four: The children were nestled all snug in their beds...

Month Five: When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter....

Month Six: When, what to my wondering eyes should appear...

Yes, these blocks took a lot of time to make; each block has a lot of pieces in it. My mind doesn't count pieces, though; it only looks at the finished product and decides if it was worth it - and in this case, I was pleased with the results. The Night Before Christmas is such an endearing poem; I think that many of us can recite most of the lines from memory.

Keep on checking and eventually, you'll see the rest of the blocks. I'm anxious to finish all of them because I already know how I want the quilt to be quilted, and that's exciting to me!

Happy sewing!

The designs are wonderful. I love the story, and I am searching for the book illustrated the same as the one I owned as a child. You won't believe this, but I had this idea in my head to do something in textiles with the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" story. That idea never went further than my head. You have made it easy for me now by designing all these beautiful blocks. I'm ready to stitch. Thanks Sue!

I don't think I realized, until I started designing this quilt, how much the story has been a part of my history - from hearing it as a child, to reading it to my own children... and now to my grandchildren. The words bring such wonderful visions -- and memories -- to mind!

I love this design. My brother and I used to perform this poem every year for our parents.

The work is wonderful and I can hardly wait to do this BOM.

Thanks for your great designs.

Hi Sue

I can't wait for this wonderful BOM to become available. I love applique and especially anything Christmas and Twas the Night Before Christmas is just a beautiful story. It will be a collectors item to display during the happy season for years to come.

Sue, your "Night Before Christmas" quilt is just wonderful. Will you have patterns available for purchase, and if so how would we go about ordering them?
thanks Rosie P.

All of my patterns are available through Quakertown Quilts (www.quakertownquilts.com). Quakertown began offering the Night Before Christmas block of the month the first Saturday in April. Each month, another new block will be available. If you are interested, call or email Quakertown; their staff is wonderful!
